‘Tastefully Simple, Artfully Gloomy’ Is What Describes BlackMagic’s Wonder Video

YouTube Preview Image
It’s not like we could have expected any less from Black Magic‘s visual offering to his alternative afro hip-hop track, Wonder. Yet, even at the class order in which he ranks, we managed to find two or more points to note from the exemplar picture with a model-esque styling.
Suffice to say, BlackMagic literally didn’t have to put in any work to ensuring the dynamism in taste that was delivered on this video. All he had to do was pretty much show up to the shoot and allow the edit take care of the remainder part of the work (which turned out to be ‘the work’ in the real sense of it). Not only did the video plot off a very dense mystic-themed concept, which usually would pass for an effect already in moderation, more creative detailing were applied to fine tune and complement the gloom saturated scenes.
The visual effect shown in the cinematography raises the quo bar by several notches up. It’s not the typical everyday presentation of a music video that you get to watch. Thus the creativity shown definitely deserves our ovation. The excessive use of photo flashes and overall movement were reduced to a drastic minimum allowing for camera pans, angular rotation and active silhouettes (depicted in live colour) to work their magic. The video also employs a minimalist style monologue and mute dialogues that mostly reflected on BlackMagic’s ‘wonder’ (body) which obviously shouldn’t have been the focus at all, but still found it’s way into making a good aesthetic outing for the video.
On a flip side, the model who was supposed to be a representation of the ‘wonder’ context being sung about, happened to have been clad in outfits that motioned off the image she was meant to be portraying. She had the perfect face and hair, but the fashion choices just failed to complement, and it created an imaginative distortion in what BlackMagic was singing about and the pictorial appearance of it. For a video of such high reach, plenty could have been done to avoid an anomaly like that. The video eventually peaked into a high point finish that had an intriguing unveil, which I’m guessing many of us missed while watching. While the viewing coursed, scenes were arranged in parchments, like an artistic make-up that led to an ultimate reveal of the wonder that BlackMagic so spoke of. We equally applaud a carefully thought out detail like that.
For those of you who are easily turned on by out-the-box thinking (I think the term I’m looking for is sapiosexual), Wonder was most definitely made especially for the likes of you… and well, for the rest of us too who find relish in a presentation of creative arts that doesn’t necessarily reek of basic. Thus, BlackMagic wins our hearts with this motion picture that is simply tasteful and impressively artistic even in it’s gloomy way.

BADDO!! See The Massive Crowd That Olamide Performs To At OAU, Ife (Video)

rapper-olamide-photos-529x431
I can bet no one will insult me if I say Olamide is the biggest act in Nigeria at the moment, I lie? The Crowd that turned up for Olamide in Ile-Ife is just too Massive ðŸ”¥
Students trooped into the Afika Amphitheater, OAU Ife on Monday, 30th May, 2016, as the popular indigenous musician, Adedeji Olamide a.k.a Olamide Badoo performed on stage.
The event was organized by Motherland Beacons, an ororganization which is said to reach out to Africans.
The show featured performances from a number of acts; Anu, the Lady Ekwe and Olo Omidan Bata and some OAU upcoming artistes.
The YBNL boss has come to Obafemi Awolowo University to perform in the past, this which he showed plainly by obeying the “dobale” tradition of the institution. No sooner than he came on stage that the atmosphere became hot as students shouted expressing their joy.
He performed some of his hit songs for about 20minutes after which fights came up as some students move on stage and this led to the sudden exit of the YBNL boss after the futile intervention of the security officials on stage.

Are Record Labels Still A Necessity In Today’s Music Industry?

skales
With more and more new acts trooping with some barging their way into the music industry on a daily basis and the established one currently roped in legal battles with their erstwhile labels, it was about time for this question to be asked.
There is no denying the fact that record labels provide artistes with a security blanket that can not be belittled or pushed aside. They ensure the distribution, promotion, studio session, shooting of videos with sometimes the best of the best in that area and so on and so forth. However, when you delve deeper into the belly of these deals, it only becomes clearer that after scrimping and making sure you are heard in what could only be termed as a whisper, finally giving rise to a forced single (on the artiste’s part) and maybe 2 minutes video where you are pushed around by the director who feels he is doing you a favor, you realize, your bank account still has the same three zeros just perfect to make a mickey mouse head. Truth be told, everyone is in it to gain financial freedom and security.
Yes, the world has changed and is still changing and God bless the day internet was born and social media followed. Social media has provided thousands of struggling  artistes the avenue to have their songs out there. For one, am certain, top music websites celebrates emerging artistes who trend on social media. Now tell me, if your song is trending on social media and secures a spot on such list, isn’t that just about the move in the right direction?
Of course, Labels can be cruel sometimes and I dare say its due to their failure to look at the future of and for that one out of five artistes they signed on. But can they be shoved aside in this day and age? No, I feel Labels are still a huge necessity in today’s music business.
Let’s face it, starting off as a newly signed artistes, a lot of things need to be put in place for you to make it in the ever competitive world of music. And these things can be placed in your laps on a platter of gold, silver or whatever it is that catches your fancy. Record labels, have years of industry relationship, you as a newbie do not. They have the magic wand and of course a place called an office or ‘Empire’ where a team of hands on magicians reside paid just to ensure that your name and song is on the lips of everyone in and around the globe.
Some determined artistes, have circumvented the now usual route of music distribution by making use of the social media platforms made available to everyone around the world, this note worthy discovery  and their will to thrive and remain atop, earned some of them popularity on these platforms. But,will social media book that tour for you? Will you new title as the ‘Social media breakout star’ get you interviews in top publications in town? Will it have your songs playing repeatedly on radio stations that charge more than you have ever seen in your lifetime as an artiste? Will social media get you the stellar team which comprises of the best producer, PR, Video director and marketer in town or will it produce your EPK? (Electronic Press Kit). This said, its safe to say new artistes need the backings of a record label to push hem to the height they hope to attain.
Record labels, have very little patience in actually seeing the long term potential in some of their artistes, due to the fact that so much money is being pumped into creating a brand for them, they are after the instant profit they can get from such artiste thereby shoving aside any artiste who does not live up to that assumed promise, breaking the heart and every other thing that can be broken in the soul of such an act, who in so many cases turn out to be the ‘not so easily discarded piece of trash” (as it is assumed) springing up legal battles and hot words easily exchanged on the same social media meant to propel you to further stardom.
Do I think new artistes needs a record label? Yes. Are they a necessity? No. You finally get the lifetime chance of meeting the top executive of a big label and he or she wants to sign you on, congratulations kid. However, please make certain your deal does not surpass a year, two at most.
Record label owners are business men and their ability and need to see the long term benefit in most of them might just knock their socks off in the long run.

What do you guys think, are record labels still a necessity in today’s music industry? Let discuss guys.

Prince’s Cause of Death Revealed

PrincePrince died from an opioid overdose, a source told the Associated Press (via the BBC). The legendary singer died on April 21, and more than a month later tests reveal he passed away from a drug overdose.
At the beginning of May, the investigation into Prince’s death took a turn when the U.S. Attorney’s office and Drug Enforcement Administration joined the efforts.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office and DEA are joining the Carver County Sheriff’s investigation,” a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s office told E! News. “The DEA and U.S. Attorney’s Office are able to augment this local investigation with federal resources and expertise about prescription drug diversion.

While this remains an ongoing investigation, we will have no further comment.” The two agencies’ involvement in the investigation came shortly after the Minneapolis Star Tribune published a report that said the “Purple Rain” crooner was supposed to meet with a California doctor who specializes in addiction.

Prince was allegedly suffering from an addiction to pain killers and had representatives reach out to Dr. Howard Kornfeld, a national authority on opioid addiction treatment, because Prince was “dealing with a grave medical emergency,” said William Mauzy, an attorney working with the Kornfeld family

Solid Reasons Why Hating On Patoranking Is A Terrible, Terrible Idea

Patoranking
I love Patoranking!
So I really cannot fathom the disparity of thoughts over why he should or shouldn’t be a judge on a music show. A lot of astute music heads have labeled their sentiments since the selection process was unveiled to the public. Reasons ranged from the illest things like ‘he is too streets’ to quite valid points like ‘he doesn’t possess superb vocals’.
Agreed!
But I think it’s unfair if we have to use these weighing standards to undermine the quality of musical showmanship Patoranking exudes in his artiste person. Patoranking is a firebrand artiste, feel free to quote me anywhere. And there’s no other like him in our industry. Of course, more fitting choices to replace him would include the likes of Banky W to even Wande Coal – guys who we know have come into the awareness of their music stuff. Or did you think the show organizers didn’t put that into consideration? Wait.
What you perhaps never cared to realize, was the hidden revelation that the show management unanimously arrived at. Patoranking equates diversity! Think of it, while the other mentors radiate a certain grace, poise and aura in their different turfs that share one too many similarities, Patoranking’s obvious radical element is an essential outside-the-box ingredient that not only seeks to balance out neutrality but also complements the mentors’ squad ultimate objective in finding the voice. He may not be a superb vocalist, but you can agree that he’s proven his musical essence with his ear for good and pleasurable sounds. He may not have an album, but then again, is that really a point for standard to consider especially in an industry like ours? Maybe you should have a rethink. He may be too streets, but we know how the popular saying goes about Jack being a dull boy because of all work and no play.
As a mentor, you should be properly vested in a variety of fields, and with appropriate experience to inspire another. Patoranking hasn’t defaulted. Musically, he’s on point. His rags to riches story is enough motivation to keep the focused going. And his ‘live today, worry later about tomorrow’ philosophical disposition to life teaches you to appropriate your hope strategies. While some have chosen to remain blindsided by his supposed inability to curl notes into marathon-like vocal runs like an R. Kelly would, we’ve already found Patoranking worthy in wielding the rudiments for character, people management and musical skill. And I’m sure these reasons are majorly why talents with better prospects found their way into his camp. They know that their winning edge isn’t factored only on an adept vocal prowess, it shares points with an ability to switch between personas, decipher moods in music and slay the hell outta that performance even if you might not have to jump unnecessarily and perspire profusely. Patoranking understands that.
Remember Patoranking’s reggaeton and dance hall genre is like the most difficult to gain acceptance (no thanks at all to today’s Nigerian sound) but his show of diversity in doing it, has put him at par with some of the best musicians especially at home and even abroad. If achieving this feat doesn’t tell you about his hardwork and patience virtue, I don’t know what else will. I recall Nonso, a contestant on the show who was torn with the dilemma of choice, but finally stuck with Patoranking after realizing that his call reached into his soul. That’s a connection even I can’t explain, but what I know is it’s the kind of connection that launches you into success that lurks in waiting. So it really isn’t out of place that the whayasay crooner has been tasked with the responsibility of giving guidance to an upcoming star. I strongly believe that he is armed in accordance to deliver. Now with these few points of mine, I hope have be able to convince you and not confuse you…

Singer skales and manager remanded in Police cell

Skales and his Manager Osagie have allegedly been remanded in Police Custody after confessing to various charges of fraud and diversion of Baseline Records funds. They are currently assisting the Police in unraveling the extent of the fraud running into tens of millions of naira.

And this story is according to Wale Ewedemi, an inside source for Baseline records.Wale wrote on Instagram that at the inception of the contract, Skales was given a fully furnished luxury apartment in Lekki in a gated estate, with a brand new customized SUV.

And a multimillion Naira sign on Fee.The record label also gave him a free hand to select and run his brand, supported by a multimillion naira corporate expense account.Skales behavior has reduced the appetite of the Record label to assist other young talents to achieve their full potential.Freeze CoolFM shared his thoughts about the incident saying:@kaylahoniwo and I talked about this on @coolfmlagos today on the #RoadShow.

Many of these artistes are from the hood. One small hit and they upgrade their transportation from Marwa and Molue to a 2006 Range Rover or G wagen with 2014 bodykit, then they upgrade their housing from mushin or Aj city to LEKKI phase one.... But the problem is they don't upgrade their minds!!! They do business with intelligent and witty entrepreneurs while using their 'Molue mentality', not realizing that a contract is a contract and GRA-GRA cannot break it!

The other day DJ Zeez was asked to pay his record label N21m, then the vector issue, then Runtown was issued a court injunction restraining him from performing and now skales allegedly sleeping inside police cell!! Upcoming artistes abeg make una learn how to read book, no be everything be swag, no be everything be gra-gra!

Please don't jump and sign your life away for a plate of porridge! UPGRADE YOUR MINDS!!!! Still trying to get Osagie and Skales for their own side of the story so expect more updates tomorrow.... In the meantime remember to read whatever u sign o! And make sure u have a good lawyer.....

Drama! Federal High Court Slams Injunction on Runtown, Sued by Ericmanny

Runtown
Afro-pop act Rontown has been sued by his record label Ericmanny. The news reaches us with a press statement from the label with shots of an injunction issued by a Federal High Court, see them below!
“A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has slammed an injunction against the rising musical artiste Douglas Jack-Agu aka “Runtown”. The injunction prevents him from performing at any event or any form of recording for the time being unless with the approval of Ericmany Limited.
Runtown is signed under the Ericmany Entertainment label that presently holds the copyright to all his music. He was sued in the Federal High Court by Ericmany on allegations that he signs up, concludes and attends musical shows without the knowledge of the label.
Ericmany Entertainment was said to have invested millions of naira on Runtown. However trouble started when Runtown apparently with the connivance of Bug Media ran by one Bugwu Aneto began to sideline Ericmany and collected money directly for shows without the knowledge of Ericmany. Bug Media is also a party to the court case.
In another twist of events, the management of Ericmany has sacked the said Bugwu Aneto as General Manager of the company for infractions which might not be unconnected with his alleged connivance with Runtown to shortchange the Label Ericamany.
Our reporter learnt that all inquiries about the artiste and bookings for shows would no longer be through Aneto but through the management of Ericmany.
It is not clear how the young artiste is reacting to the court case and injunction. Observers suggest he was misled by Bugwu, the former General Manager of Ericmany to ditch his boss and benefactor Ericmany, and may now that the chips are down find ways to go back and reconcile with the Ericmany.
